Eastbourne, Hastings, and Brighton
On the south coast of England.
I have never had a ‘seaside holiday’ before, in fact I’ve only ever had a couple of day trips to the coast, and that was to Blackpool in my teenage years. Being on a sandy beach looking out to sea for 7 days doesn’t excite me at all, nor do funfairs, candy floss, or sticks of rock, so why would I go to coastal town for a break.
I have family members that live on the south coast, so I thought that it was time to visit them – I hadn’t seen them for a few years, and that was only because they had visited family and friends in Birmingham. I chose the dates, booked my hotel, bought my train tickets, and packed my suitcase ready for the ‘off’.
Because there was no itinerary to follow once I was there, I could pick and chose where to go, what to see, and when to do it, but I didn’t see all that I would have liked. I had only booked 4 nights at the hotel, so that meant that I only had 3 full days, and one of those days was a rainy Sunday.
I did have another break in Eastbourne in 2019, but that was only a quick visit, I did take some photos – I might upload them one day.

Bar/Lounge at The Pier Hotel - The bar/ lounge, I didn't use this room because I was out most of the time, the door to the left leads to the breakfast room. Image Date: 06/07/2014

Bar/Lounge at The Pier Hotel - Picture taken from the bar in the previous picture, the door in the middle takes you onto a 'sun lounge', large windows give a clear view of what is going on below, it is 8 - 10 feet (2.5 - 3 metres) above ground level. I didn't use this facility either, since it's south facing, and it was sunny and hot at the time of my visit I could only imagine the heat that would be generated within this glass enclosure.
