Lady Isabella - Also known as 'The Great Laxey Wheel'. Image Date: 02/07/2011

Lady Isabella - The wheel was built in 1854 to pump water from the Glen Mooar part of the Great Laxey Mines, it was named Lady Isabella after the wife of the then Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. It is 72½ feet (22 metres) in diameter, and 6 feet (1.8 metres) wide. Water from the hills is collected in a cistern that is higher than wheel, the force of gravity makes it flow up through a pipe in the stone column to flow onto the wheel. Image Date: 02/07/2011

At The Mine - This is the point where the rotation of a cam attached to the wheel moves a 640 foot (195 metres) beam backwards and forwards that moves the 'Rocker' so it will lift water out of the mine below. Image Date: 02/07/2011

Lady Evelyn - The Snaefell Wheel, also known as Lady Evelyn, it is 50 feet (15.25 metres) in diameter. Originally built in 1865 for the Snaefell Mining Company, it was taken out of use in 1910, its future was uncertain until it was fully restored in 2006 and located here - Lady Isabella is about 650 yards (595 metres) behind me, Laxey Station is about 170 yards (155 metres) in front of me and the Laxey Mine Railway Terminus is about 20 yards (18 metres) to my left.
