The Rocket [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - A few of the teachers from Duddeston Manor School used to have their 'lunch' here, some of the pupils would have a pint or two in the evening (including me) - Now a mosque. Albion Vaults [Still Trading as a Pub/Bar] - I used to pass this pub almost every day whilst riding on the No.8 bus going to and from school, it was only recently that I made a visit, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it has a relatively high customer base. Before my visit I thought that this was just another pub that is waiting to close, it used to be a residential and industrial area, now it has no houses or flats nearby, the changes in road layout means that it is unlikely to attract any passing trade, and it is no longer on a bus route - but it’s still open. The Old Bill and Bull [Still Trading as a Pub/Bar] - This building started life as a police station, it was converted into a pub in the early 1980's, I only went in there once and was somewhat disapointed that the bar and lounge were on ground level - no rooms downstairs were being used. The Redhill Tavern [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - The gold text that spans the building is a variation of the first line of GK Chesterton's poem 'The Englishman', it reads 'Saint George he was for England, and before he slew the Dragon, he drank a pint of foaming ale, from out a British Flagon'. The building now appears to be Flats/Apartments. On the corner of Coventry Road and Redhill Road, Hay Mills, Birmingham. Image Date: 29/07/2014
The Monica [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - I've never been into this pub so I don't know anything about it, apart from it appears to have been renamed 'The Monica Hall', there are signs saying that meeting rooms are available for hire. Plough and Harrow [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - This pub stood empty for several years before being demolished in Spring 2015, it was on the Coventry Road between the River Cole and Shipway Road, Hay Mills, Birmingham. Image Date: 15/08/2013
The George [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - Now a ladies clothes shop selling Asian styles (still showing the pub sign in this photo). On the corner of Alfred Street and Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Image Date: 25/07/2012
The Gate [Still Trading as a Pub/Bar] - Tucked down a side street, it is surprising that this little pub is still trading - although it is now known as The Gate Bar & Grill. On Studley Steet (off Ladypool Road), Sparkbrook, Birmingham. Image Date: 25/07/2012
The Emily Arms - The Hideout [Ceased Trading as a Pub/Bar] - This pub was built on the diagonally opposite corner to the original Emily Arms, Saint Martin's Flats were built at the same time, when the flats were completed the original Victorian pub was demolished. The flats were demolished in 1981 and replaced with new houses. The pub is now an Islamic community centre. On the corner of Emily Street and Dymoke Street, Highgate, Birmingham. Sir Charles Napier [Still Trading as a Pub/Bar] - I don't know anything about this pub other than it was refurbished in the latter months of 2014. On the corner of Bissell Street and Gooch Street, Highgate, Birmingham. Image Date: 23/10/2014
