Sheffield Smelting Company

This building is now home to a firm of Solicitors - Located on the corner of Saint Paul's Square and Charlotte Street.

Newhall Street

Looking South Easterly along Newhall Street - Photo taken from the Junction of Newhall Street, Graham Street, and George Street. The original Assay Office is just visible on the right side of both photos; a new building hides the office block that can be seen in the upper photo.

Birmingham Assay Office

The original Assay Office of Birmingham - Located on the corner of Newhall Street and Charlotte Street.

Elkington's Electroplating Works

In the upper image, the building on the right with the grand porch entrance is Elkington's Electroplating Works; this later became the home of the science museum.
In 2001, a new science museum was opened at Millenium Point - opposite Curzon Street Station in the East side of Birmingham Centre.
In my youth (1960’s), I spent many hours in the old science museum, the bonus of it then was, entry was free of charge – the new museum may have more exhibits and things to do - but that now comes at a price.
